Good bye S'Bruce, We'll Miss You

We had to take a tree down today at Wiser Times. Boo hoo !! It was a lovely tall Spruce. But a few weeks ago, a wind storm broke its roots and it was in danger of falling down onto cars parked in our driveway. We called a tree professional to see if we could save it somehow. But he said because of the broken roots, that side of the tree would die even if we pulled it back into the ground with cables. And because the soil is so sandy, we'd have to bring in a lot of top soil to help anchor it down more firmly even if we didn't care about the one side dying. None of that sounded like anything we wanted to do.

So, rather than take a chance that another wind storm would push it down, we had it taken down today. Here is the story in pictures.

First what it looked like before and why it had to come down.

Today's work:

Then, as long as they were there, we decided to take down a dead, rotted out oak tree.

Taking it down: (notice he had to maneuver under the power lines!)

Next, they ground up the stumps -- the guy used a remote control device to move the grinder back and forth:

And, now this is what it looks like:

At least we got lots of firewood out of the deal!

I will offer up a brief prayer for S'Bruce - and thanksgiving that no autos or roofs were damaged in the process.

All those pictures just make me wish I was back on the Big Water - with a Manhattan in my future. Thankfully, all that IS in my future.
