Disney World

The Burk family converged on Disney World the last week of March. The weather most definitely did not cooperate -- we had all-day downpours and thunderstorms and tornado watches on most days -- but we still made the best of it !!

Ted & Sara drove from Texas with Leili & Cyrus. Cathy & Matt drove from Virginia. Dolores, Wendell & Wendy came over from Zephyrhills. And Chuck, Christy & I drove from Michigan, by way of a week in Hilton Head. We all stayed at Disney's Old Key West Resort in a three bedroom grand villa. Chuck's parents and sister stayed in a couple of studio rooms in the same building. So that arrangement made it easy for everyone to hang out together.

Cyrus is cruising along the furniture -- not yet walking, but it shouldn't be long before he does !

But, just because Cyrus can't walk yet, it didn't keep him from getting around.  He would throw a ball and then crawl along the floor and chase it.  He was very good at entertaining himself!

Chuck and I babysat the little ones on several days, while the big kids went to the theme parks and participated in some nightlife, too. We also had lots of happy hours together and a few evenings playing cribbage and "Oh Hell."

On Tuesday, March 29th, we celebrated Cyrus's first birthday at a character breakfast at Disney's Polynesian Resort.  While we were waiting for our table, Leili found a friend.  She was intrigued by the other little girl's Minney Mouse dress.  They had fun jumping up and down together.

Once seated, we had all 12 of us at one table, where they brought us a scrumptious multi-course breakfast, including waffles shaped like Mickey.

The theme of the breakfast was Hawaiian, with characters from Disney's movie "Lilo & Stitch." Both Lilo & Stitch visited our table, as well as Pluto.

But the highlight was when Mickey Mouse himself visited our table ! Leili even got a kiss from him!

Later, all the little ones marched around the restaurant in a big parade.

At happy hour that night, Cyrus and Leili opened their birthday gifts.  (Leili's birthday is April 15).

Here's Great-Grandma Dolores and Great-Aunt Wendy with Cyrus.

All in all, it was a wonderful time with FOUR GENERATIONS of family together.  In spite of the horrible weather, we still made it work.

We kept hearing about rain, rain, rain. Down where we were, it only rained after dark, so we made our own nightlife! Movies and Manhattans. Or so they tell me. I was in bed by then.
