Black Rock

On Tuesday afternoon and evening, we spent time at the Sheraton Maui Hotel on Ka'anapali Beach. We went there to listen to some Hawaiian music, see a hula dancer and watch an ancient Hawaiian tradition of cliff diving at legendary Black Rock (Pu'u Keka'a) at sunset.

It was a gorgeous place. We had lots of pupu (appetizers), several umbrella drinks each and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Just before sunset, the diver runs around the complex and lights all the torches. Then he runs along the beach and up onto the black rocks. At sunset, he dives in. (I have a really cool video of it all but I can't seem to get it uploaded -- sorry.)

By the way, Chuck said he's almost sure this wasn't him, but he did wake up with some unexplained bruises Wednesday morning...
